Before & After School Programs

The Oceanside Unified School District contracts with a variety of community organizations to provide before and after school programs at many of our elementary and middle schools. Before and after school programs vary from school to school. Programs are tailored to meet the particular academic and social needs of the school population at each site.  All necessary registration forms and information can be obtained at your school site by contacting the Site Supervisor.

ASES

Most of our before and after school programs receive grant funds through the California Department of Education’s After School Education and Safety (ASES) program. The ASES program allows a limited number of students to participate free of charge in before and after school programs consisting of academic tutoring, support and enrichment activities. Enrichment activities include sports, arts, music, dance, cooking, and drama. The programs are educational, fun, and include a daily complimentary snack. Before school programs operate for 1 ½ hours before school begins. After school programs operate Monday through Friday immediately after dismissal, and for a minimum of three hours, ending at either 6:00p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Participating students must attend each day and for a minimum number of hours each week.

Please note: Some sites host a fee-based program, please check with the site supervisor for details.

 ASSETs

The 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) program serves students in grades 9 through 12. This program operates with funds received from the California Department of Education’s ASSETs program. The program provides a safe and supervised environment after each school day for students to receive academic support and enrichment. The academic support consists of tutoring in subjects required for high school graduation. Academic enrichment includes a variety of activities and mini-workshops designed to help students attain the California standards in all subject areas. The ASSETs program operates at all three of our high schools. Specific site information and schedules are available by contacting the ASSETs Site Coordinator at each high school.

The ASSETs program undergoes an annual survey process to assess progress toward providing high quality opportunities for all students.  Our annual survey results are available for the public to review.  If you would like to review these results, please call 760-966-4018.

Information about any district sponsored after school program is available by contacting Marisa Crawford at 760-966-4018 or marisa.crawford@oside.us.
