Drinking Water Sampling

The health and safety of students and staff is our top priority.

In response to press coverage regarding the presence of lead in water samples from schools in San Diego County and around the state, out of an abundance of caution the district requested water testing from the City of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton.

Water samples were drawn from schools beginning in April 2017.  The most-used drinking water sources at each school were tested.

Samples less than or equal to 15 parts per billion (ppb) require no further testing as established by the State Water Resources Control Board via the Division of Drinking Water.

Clair Burgener and Chavez Middle School each had one fixture with detectable levels of lead below the federal actionable limit.  All other tested sources at those schools registered no detectable lead.  Although no action is legally required, these fixtures have been taken out of service immediately.  The fixture at Clair Burgener was replaced and retested with no detectable lead.  The fixture at Chavez Middle School was removed.
