Qualifying Events

What are Qualifying Events?

According to Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Service Code, changes may only be made to plans during Open Enrollment or during the plan year if employees have a qualifying family status change.

 

Qualifying events include birth, adoption, death, marriage, divorce, changes in employment for employees or spouses, or dependents who no longer satisfy dependent eligibility requirements.

 

It is the responsibility of the employee to notify the District Insurance Office and complete the appropriate paperwork or online enrollment process within 30 days of the qualifying event.

 

Failure to submit coverage changes within 30 days following the event date will forfeit the right to make changes to the plan until the next Open Enrollment period.
