Transitional Kindergarten

about the program

Kids with waterTransitional kindergarten is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children turning 5 years old between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2. 

This program offers young learners a head start and provides them with a golden opportunity to learn and grow in an environment  tailored to meet their academic and social needs.

  • TK is the first year of a two-yr kindergarten program
  • is free as part of the public school system
  • is designed to support "young" five-year-olds
  • is taught by credentialed teachers with extra training
  • uses a unique, specialized curriculum based on kindergarten standards

REGISTRATION

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) registration takes place at the Educational Support Services (ESS) Office, located at 2080 Mission Ave, starting Jan. 15, 2020. 

To register, visit the ESS to fill out the application form. You will list the top three schools you are interested in having your child attend.

Notifications of placement will be mailed out mid-May. Instructions will be provided to you with your approved placement letter. 

Your child must turn 5 years old between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2, 2020 to be eligible. For questions, contact Student Services at 760-966-7849.
